Do it Yourself Tea Candles

Do it Yourself Tea Candles

November 16, 2015

Here is a fun project to do, especially for the holidays. Candles are beautiful, and they are even more beautiful in gorgeous vintage tea cups.

So if you have any unused tea cups around, you can make them into a tea cup candle. Or if you are like me, this type of project would warrant a trip to an thrift store, which is my favorite thing to do when looking for new tea things and decorations. You may even find a tea cup candle already made!

But for the sake of this post, let us learn how to make tea cup candles from scratch.

Here are the things that you would need for the project:

  • Tea cup
  • 2 taper candles for one candle
  • pliers or tweezers
  • 2 skewers or pencils
  • bowl of hot water and pan
Prep your tea cup in a bowl of hot water. This will help prevent cracking, as you will be pouring hot wax to the tea cup. Dry thoroughly.
Next, melt your candles in the pan over medium heat.  Watch them carefully as they will melt fast. Remove the wick with the pliers or tweezers once the candles have melted. You will need only one.
Place the wick in the center of the tea cup, and hold them there with the skewers or pencils.
Then carefully pour in the hot wax.
and Viola, you have made your tea cup candle. After it cools you can trim the wick.
These tea cup candles can make a wonderful gift in the holiday season. Also, have fun experimenting, as you can add your own coloring and scent to the candle, just make sure you research before making. This is the easiest recipe that I could find for beginners like myself could do without too much trouble.
Happy crafting,
Alyssa
