How to Clean your Silver

How to Clean your Silver

August 13, 2019

Welcome to the second week of “How to Clean” series. We are going to spend the next few weeks learning how to clean your silver, kettle, strainer, and tea containers.

So let us start with cleaning silver.

Pure silver silverware is a joy and beauty to behold. It adds another element of beauty and refinement to your tea table. Whenever I have a really fancy afternoon tea, I always bring out the silver. However, since silver doesn’t get used that often, it is prone to get tarnished.

But down fear, I have some tips to get that silver gleaming and sparkling in no time.

Materials you will need are:

  • Polishing cloth
  • silver powder or cream polish
  • toothpaste
  • soft sponge
  • clean old towel

Directions

Gently wash your silver to remove as much tarnish as possible. Use your clean old towel to wipe the silver. Now it is time to use the silver powder or cream polish. do whatever the directions say on the product.

Make sure to use gentle motions while cleaning your silver. You don’t want to accidentally scratch your silver.

For stubborn stains, try to use a small amount of toothpaste on an old toothbrush and gently scrub at the stubborn stain.

Then rinse with warm then cold water and dry with a clean old towel.

Do the same with any silver tea pots or kettles.

Once they are dry, one final step would be to bluff gently with a silver polishing cloth. This will get rid of any remaining tarnish and will just make your silver gleam in a whole new level.

Now you have gleaming silver that will impress all of your guests. I hope that you found these cleaning methods benefitable. If you have any more recommendations or suggestions for cleaning your sliver, let me know in the comments.

As always, have a great week,

Alyssa
